I hope the lord see it fit for many years. I got the football game from the brown truck tonight. Pretty much the same game I played as a teen. My only issue is the card stock( so thin). As an offset pressman in the printing industury for the last 30 years I understand paper stock and this is some cheap stuff. I am old school so I say stay with what got you there.I also understand with the computer game etc it is a business move. SR2 you play strat football. Do you replay a team ,season? Just wondering what I want to do. I play all solitare. So up to the strat cave to set up another card table!

Bosoxs,

Yeah, the cards are thin, lean manufacturing is not limited to just having an employee perform the workload of 2 or 3 people, it is also about cutting costs of material, those thin cards are cheaper than the card stock.

I have not re-played an abbreviated season re-play in quite some time, I used to do 81 game per team re-plays in Baseball and the regular 16 game seasons in Football.
Not any more!
In Baseball, I'm putting the final touches to a 26 team per league Great Teams Tourney.
In Football I just buy the postseason teams each year and re-play the postseason.
Or, I'll re-play memorable games such as the one posted in this thread ( The Ice Bowl).

In Football, I have each 6-team card set from 67 to 92 and about 6 or 7 season sets that include many of the 15 to 13 game win teams.

I'll sometimes, through research pit teams against each other that are considered by many to be the greatest teams of all time.
Nothing as structered as what I'm dioing with the Baseball game.

Enjoy that game, did you order the super-advanced game board and instructions?

I did get the advanced board and instruction. Not sure how much If I will every play that style. Alot involved if you play solitare. I find the basis game plays pretty well. Like yourself it is really about the baseball game for me. Just would like to roll a couple of football games on the cold Jan. night in VT. I understand lean manufacturing.I work for a major Drug company and we are all about that

I have kind of a stupid question about the football game. The rules say if you keep stats which I do. You should add 17 yards to the field goal which I understand. So if the ball is on the 20 and you are going to try a field goal would you use the kicker range from 20 or 37? I would assume it would be 37 yards>

37 sounds right, but i have never played it, but if i didnt have anyone to ask, i would use 37 myself.

one way to check, does the card give a rating starting at 1 yard, or 18 yards for the minimum distance. again, i have never seen a football card

They start at 1 yard so I guess it would be from where the ball is. I think this was done before they moved the goal post back.

Bosoxs,

No such thing as a stupid question, ask, ask, ask!

The ball is on the 20 yd. line you say, the goal post is 10 yds. back from the 1 ydd. line, the standard spot of the ball from the line of scrimmage on field goal attempts is 7 yds.

It has varied over the years but it is 7 yds. now.
So, 20 plus 10 plus 7 is a 37 yd. field goal attempt.

Thanks guys. I have not played the football game since I was about 14 or 15. So may have some more questions. I added a second card table to my man cave. Still rolling the 71 baseball and enjoying it. In the (real world) my Soxs are trying very hard to blow it! Also just for thw record I am a Vikings fan. So right now I am having a hard time sleeping....lol!

It's 8 yds. now? Okay, thanks Nac.
As I said, it has changed from time to time, I assume due to the percentage of blocked attempts, defensive formations on attempts, etc.

Seven has been working okay for me in the Strat world, I'll go with 8 yds. in the name of what NFL teams go with. Maybe in crucial situations I'll do 7 yds.

Bosoxs,

Tigers and Red Sox to a lesser extent, but where the NFL is concerned you and I seem to be rivals cause I am a huge Packers fan. Oh Well!

As a very young kid about 11 0r 12 I was a Giants fan . But when Fran went to Minnesota I went with him. So I guess you would have to call me a lifetime vikings fan. For the record other teams red Sox, celtics and habs. But rivals in sports is good!
