How I got here!

Hi, my name is Fred (aka Hughmanity), and I am the proud owner of over 15 seasons of Strat-O-Matic baseball.  I discovered this forum while I was finding a site to post my SOM baseball replays.  My first SOM game was the '89 set that I got for Christmas in '91, which was sold at a department store. My 1st SOM set that I bought from Glen Head was the '95 card set, which I am happy to report that I still own. Here are the seasons that I already own:

1971, 1977, 1978 (original), 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

I always look forward to January and February for the new cards, but I am going to wait til March 3 to order the '11 cards.

Anyway, thanks to Strat's personalized baseball card offer, I created a power hitting 3rd baseman for San Diego named Hugh Fitzsimmons, who is 6-5/248, and he helped San Diego win the N.L. West with 34 home runs and 97 RBI, a nice help to a team that also had Mike Piazza, Mike Cameron and Adrian Gonzalez.

I have a lot of personalized cards, as well as the nameless cards, and I like to create my own players as "X-factors" for my favorite teams.

My favorite hobbies besides Strat are playing other tabletop sports games, playing Xbox 360 sports games and riding my bike around my hometown of Canonsburg, Pa.

(Hey, I'd like to offer to all Strat Fanatics a chance to do a backstory on Hugh Fitzsimmons...he's 6-5, 248 lbs., of Irish descent and ancestry, has good morals and a strong power hitter with a 3-e29 rating at 3rd base! He first played for San Diego in 2004. Can anyone help with a story on Hugh?)

Anyway, I just finished my first Strat replay (a N.L. West pennant for the 2006 San Diego Padres, finishing at 86-76, losing 3 games to 0 to St. Louis in the NLDS), and I am posting the recaps from the Strat Baseball Village and posting them here.

I know Nitrous Oxide from the Village and seajaw from the SOM Gamers Paradise, and I am proud to be a part of this SOMers forum! Thanks for the invite!

Fred,

Its good to have you here-just don't ask me to name Hugh Fitzpatrick's favorite restaurant or show size. wink

In all seriousness your unique projects are fun to follow. Adding a personalized card creates an entirely new experience.

I'm really happy you are seeing projects through. Its hard to follow a bunch of projects that only get in a few games before starting another.

When are the Fitz-Bucks going to win the NBA championship? I know you also take on Pacers projects. Since thats my team I ready for the Fitz-Pacers to dominate.

Actually the Fitz-Pacers replays are now Hugh O'Neill-Pacers replays, I decided to change the name to avoid confusion. Thanks for asking...

Maybe you could get a scan of the Fitzpatrick card, and add it to your Homestead team of made-up players.
