2009-10 Indiana Pacers replay w/SOM Basketball, basic cards and dice.

I am a fan of Strat hoops as well as Strat baseball, and I created a basketball player named Philip Fitzpatrick, a forward for the Indiana Pacers, who will help his team greatly. My friend Seajaw did a great write-up at the SOM Gamers Paradise forum, and I'd like to post it here:

Born and raised a devout Catholic, Phillip Fitzpatrick didn't take long to find his true calling.

An early growth spurt pushed the freckle-faced youth to a surprising six feet by the time he was 12. Awkward at first, he suffered through a tough developmental phase, before finally becoming accustomed to the attention his size gained him. He slowly added weight to his height and became a force on the schoolyard basketball court, although his sometimes-bruising style of play got him into a few scrapes.

"You might say I did my time in the confessional," he admits.

In high school, he developed a solid interior game, his limited leaping ability actually forcing him to improve his footwork and positioning. He also became adept at rotating the ball out of double teams, to the spot-up jump shooters dotting the perimeter.

"Fitzie," as he was commonly called, became a crowd favorite through his work ethic. He willingness to help other players is an extension of his natural openness, which blossomed as his confidence grew.

"I always just liked to help people," he said in a recent interview. "It's the way I was brought up."

Drafted in the first round by the Indiana Pacers, Fitzpatrick has been a quick study, according to the coaching staff. He is frequently among the last to leave after team practices.

"We project him to be a 15-10 player, and a solid presence underneath the basket. His quickness is not A-Grade, but his all-around savvy and positioning are excellent for a young player. He's picking up on things real quick."

While he searches for a more permanent residence, Phillip is sharing a small apartment with his wife, Erin, and their toddler triplets, Liam, Ireland and Finlay.

"We wanted a family, but we didn't know just how quick we'd have a full house," he said with a laugh, surprised at how fast his life is changing.

"There are so many things going on right now, I'd like to keep things as simple as possible," he says. "A house is a big deal, and we want to find just the right place. We only just got a larger car, because of the triplets. I was never big on stuff like that. My old Civic was always good enough for me.

"You know, my Dad worked at several jobs over the years. We never had a lot of 'stuff.' We always had food on the table, and new clothes when we needed them.

"But my brothers and I were taught the value of a dollar. I know that sounds corny, but that's just the way we were raised."
Philip can be the perfect sixth man for the Pacers, who have All-Star talent in Roy Hibbert and Danny Granger, but Indiana will miss the playoffs, in my opinion.
I hope you can enjoy my replay, it's just as fun as my Strat-O-Matic baseball replays!

I am doing the 2009-10 Indiana Pacers replay, because the Pacers are my other favorite team in the NBA. They had Danny Granger, who averaged a career best 24 PPG in just 62 games, while Troy Murphy registered a double-double with 14.6 PPG and 10.2 RPG. Their top assists leader was Earl Watson, who averaged 5.1 APG and Roy Hibbert averaged 1.6 blocks per game. However, for Head Coach Jim O'Brien, injuries did them in, as only one player (Brandon Rush) played all 82 games, and their record was a dismal 32-50 mark, which caused a lot of dismay in Indiana.

One of the rookies on the Pacers is Philip Fitzpatrick, who comes out of Notre Dame, a 6-11 power forward, who has a rebound rating of 3/11 for a left forward, and is a good shooter for a forward. He will be backing up fellow Domer Troy Murphy at left forward, Philip will be earning 18 minutes of play as a reserve.

The season just begun on October 28th, with the Pacers defeating the Hawks, 92-89.

Danny Granger got off to a good start with a game-high 35 points, one of six Indiana players in double figures. The Pacers came back from a 11-point lead to take the victory, holding the Hawks to just 12 4th quarter points. The Pacers won the game despite being outrebounded by Atlanta 43-42, led by 13 rebounds each from Josh Smith and Al Horford. Philip Fitzpatrick had a great NBA debut, with 10 points and 9 rebounds on 5-of-6 shooting.

Granger 35 pts, 6 rebs, 3 stls
Hibbert 11 pts, 4 rebs
Watson 11 pts, 5 rebs, 3 asts, 3 stls
Murphy 10 pts, 6 rebs
Ford 12 pts, 3 rebs, 2 asts, 2 stls
Fitzpatrick 10 pts, 9 rebs, 2 asts

points: Joe Johnson, 22
rebounds: Josh Smith and Al Horford, 13
assists: Joe Johnson and Mike Bibby, 7

October 30th at Conseco Fieldhouse: Indiana 105, Miami 82
Danny Granger had another stunning performance as he had 35 points and 8 rebounds he kept in pace with Dwyane Wade (32 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists) in Indiana's blowout win over Miami. The Pacers held the Heat to under 20 points for three of the four quarters, and they held them to under 42%.
points: Wade 32, Haslem 10, O'Neal 10
rebounds: O'Neal 9, Wade 6, Haslem 5
assists: Wade 6, Chalmers 3, 5 players with 1

points: Granger 35, Murphy 13, Fitzpatrick 12
rebounds: Murphy 9, Granger 8, Fitzpatrick/S. Jones 7
assists: Watson 7, Ford/Head 3, Granger 2

The Pacers next games will be November 3rd against the Denver Nuggets at Conseco Fieldhouse and November 4th at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks.

Besides Arenas' game high 42 for the Wizards, Josh Howard had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Game 7 - November 14 at Conseco Fieldhouse

The Celtics used a balanced scoring attack to beat the Pacers as seven players were in double figures, led by Glen Davis with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Paul Pierce had 18 points and 6 boards, Ray Allen had 17 and 6 while Rajon Rondo had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and Nate Robinson had 12 points. The Pacers were right in the game throughout, but ran out of steam when Danny Granger fouled out late in the game. Granger had a game high 22 points tonight, but he had help from fellow frontcourt mates Troy Murphy (14 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists) and Roy Hibbert (14 points and 6 assists). The Pacers also had a strong showing from their bench thanks to Philip Fitzpatrick (11 points, 9 rebounds), Mike Dunleavy (11 points) and T.J. Ford (10 points). However, too many fouls committed by Indy (22 fouls=21 Boston free throws made) and a 48-41 rebounds edge for the C's did in the Pacers as Indiana falls to 5-2 for the season.
