Group Participation: 2012 with a HOF twist!

Taking a cue from Rollsox, I thought it would be fun to have a 2012 replay with a twist.

If you recall, Rollsox played a season where he played the 2012 Pittsburgh Pirates, but added two hall of famers and an up and coming player.

My thought is to allow SOMers members who want to participate in the project to be the GM for two 2012 teams (1 AL, 1 NL).  However, each manager would be allowed to draft 3 hall of fame players to the team (lowest winning % to highest).  For those teams without a GM, I would allow HAL to make the choice and I would set up the rotations and batting orders.

At the end of the season, the two teams with the most improved records would meet in a world series.  (Replay winning% - RL winning%).

I have to work out some details as I am still learning the computer game.  If you are interested, let me know and which teams you would like to manage.  First come, first served.

BTW, Nitrous Oxide who has been helping with the concept has claimed the Rays and Rockies.

Clarification:  In re-reading the above paragraph, I just want to be clear, I will set pitching staffs and lineups only for those teams without a manager.  HAL manages all teams according to the manager's specifications.

I would be interested but how would it work? Would I just tell you the teams and the players? And how would the managing of the rosters work? I'll take both New York teams

I just have a few questions. I think I understand the manager aspect after rereading it but how will usage be inforced? Strict? (Innings atbats?) poistions? ( like say Jimmie Foxx has catcher elgibility but first was his primary ) and players with pitching cards can they be used as both ?( Ruth and a few Negro leaguers). Like I said though ether way I'm in and I'll take Yankees and mets

When  I noted I had a few things to learn about the computer, these were some of the things I was referring to.  I would not try to restrict usage by position, but would try to prevent a player from being overused.  I intend to allow HAL to control usage as much as possible.  One of the reasons for this project is to help me learn the computer.

There is also the issue of players being traded (e.g., Reyes in Florida, Victorino and Pence in Philly).  Let's just say that Victorino played 50 games for Philadelphia.  Personally, I would not care if those games were spread over the season or within the first 80.  N/O had made a suggestion related to this were rosters are set for the year.  I have to understand more about this, but if that is an option, I would set for opening day rosters.  There are some settings in the computer game and I would allow HAL to control for both of these, but others may educate me on settings that make more sense.

I would like to know who is interested by next weekend so we can begin the draft and hopefully complete that by New Years Day.

Last year, we had a HOF and Heroes league where Nitrous ran the league.  He did between 12-18 games a week, but it was an 8 team league.  With 30 teams, it may move slower, but we will have to see.  You will set the lineups, rotations and strategy.  Once a week, you will be able to make changes to any of these items.  So you can be as active or passive as you like.  Ballparks will be the actual ballparks that the clubs played in 2012.  Again HAL will manage day-to-day.

Anyway, just for an update:

Wegernation:  New York Mets, New York Yankees

Rollsox:  Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

N/O:  Tampa Bay Rays, Colorado Rockies

BTW, I will pick my teams last, after everyone else has had an opportunity.

Sounds good should be fun. Hopefully we get a decent amount if people to participate. I've never used the computer version ether and in thinking of switching over possibly with the new set. I like the idea of being able to move at a quicker pace sometimes weather that's not playing the full game or concentrating on one team. But at the same time I'm a c&d guy.

OK....so you get to add 3 HOF'ers....which means you drop 3 players of your choice?

Meaning.....if I choose.....Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Juan Marichal.....I drop 2 outfielders and a pitcher?

Glad to add you to the list of managers.

Not sure if you will drop 3 players or just add 3.  If we do drop players, managers will have discretion over who to drop.  For instance, if you pick up 2 pitchers and an infielder, you could drop 1 pitcher, an infielder and an outfielder.  The positions do not necessarily need to correlate.

Also, please note the twist:  most improved teams play in the playoffs.

Wegernation:  New York Mets, New York Yankees

Rollsox:  Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

N/O:  Tampa Bay Rays, Colorado Rockies

Nacster:  Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals
