Franchise Wars! Another SOMers Group Project
Permalink Closed

SOMers Faithful

I want to try something...almost a Beta Test.

Here is the setup...

YOU pick a franchise

YOU pick 25 players from that franchise using any Strat deluxe set. That means 1911,20,24,27,30,34,38,41,48,50,51,53-2014. No franchise can have the same player more than once, but players can appear on more than one franchise. So the Yankees can't use 3 Babe Ruth cards, but Barry Bonds may end up on the Pirates and the Giants. The player must be from a year that he was on the franchise. Example-You can't use the 2001 Bonds to play for the Pirates. Only 1986 to 1992 Bonds Cards would be eligible for the Pirates.

YOU set your lineups and rotations.

I'll play the entire season in one shot

I'll post the results and the bragging rights begin.

This may lead to multiple seasons and possibly a running total of Strat projects.

The thoughts are we can start quicker because there is no draft. The project ends fast so nobody loses interest. We can adjust from there. Several iterations could occur making roster or franchise changes along the way.

Let me know if you are interested. Post questions here. Chances are somebody else has the same question.

So for example..............

Say I want to pick the Giants.

I can choose any player who ever played for them in the years listed. But I can only choose ONE of those players (meaning I can't choose multiple Willie Mays).

The Giants would get to use 1 Willie Mays card...owners choice.

Any Giants player from those years can be used.

Sounds like fun.  I am in and I would like to put a bid in for the Phillies.

Q - what about franchises that changed cities like Philadelphia A's - Kansas City A's - Oakland A's?  Same franchise, right?

Would there be any consideration for a franchise with less than 50 years?  For instance, could the Mets and Astros be combined?

Not all those cards have ballpark effects. The year of the park won't matter....just the name.

Franchises continue...Braves, A's, etc. all fall together

Could you make a running list of the members that have joined, and the teams they desire?

I have a couple in mind but want to assess all my options........(HINT....a couple of them are HUGE surprises).........

DH. It's easier to control. Only 2 lineups necessary that way.

Standard manager options

No max rules

No closer rule

SADV fielding

No GBA on pitchers

Board game pitcher fatigue

I'll accept individual player settings if desired

I'm sure I forgot something

I'll take your bids now. In the future I'm sure folks will try different franchises.

TT-Phillies
Stargell-Pirates
SF70-Giants
Chip71-Dodgers

I am going to wait until the majority of members pick their favorite teams............I see Stratfan took the Gigantes, TT will take the Phillies, stargell the Pirates.......

Since I have no favorite team, my options are open.

Wonder who takes the Yankees knowing many here hate them lol............
