Finished up a pre-play of tonight's game using Eddie Mays' Bowl Bound charts. If you are a betting person, go lay money on Bama. Because each year I do this, I get it wrong, and there is now way tonight's game goes down like mine.

Final score, Clemson 11, Alabama 7.

The Tide's only score came on a Cyrus Jones 80 yard punt return in the first quarter. Adam Griffith missed four field goals (47,47, 48, and 51) and Clemson scored two safeties in the second half. The Tigers win it on a fade route to Deon Cain from 11 yards out from DeShaun Watson with 2:30 left. Alabama had the game's only turnover, a mid-field fumble in the fourth.

I didn't keep detailed stats, but Bama clearly outgained the Tigers, and Derrick Henry no doubt rushed for over 100 yards. They shut down the Clemson running game as expected. But they kept stalling out at the CU 30 and could never convert. And the Tiger pass rush was a factor when it needed to be. I believe they ended up with four sacks, including one of the safeties

IRL I would take the Tide, but I will be rooting for the Tigers. And don't let this dissuade you from getting Eddie's charts--they really are top-notch. I just don't seem to be able to predict these things on my own. But head-to-head it has been eerily accurate the few times I've found someone to go against.

Never played with the Mays charts, but I hear he makes some good ones to fit the ol' SI/Avalon format. That reminds me that I have to get back to my own pre-1960s CFB tournament.

Just ran a replay using the "WhatifSports" engine -https://www.whatifsports.com/ncaafb/default.asp#top

Alabama defeated Clemson 38-14

Scoring Summary

1st Quarter
Ala 13:12 TD Derrick Henry 15 yd. run (Griffith kick) 7-0
Ala 10:09 TD Kenyan Drake 21 yd. run (Griffith kick) 14-0
Ala 0:18 TD Kenyan Drake 44 yd. run (Griffith kick) 21-0

2nd Quarter
Clem 8:05 TD Deon Cain 24 yd. pass from Watson (Huegel kick) 21-7
Ala 2:16 TD Kenyan Drake 21 yd. run (Griffith kick) 28-7

3rd Quarter
Ala 9:59 FG Adam Griffith 25 yds. 31-7
Clem 7:40 TD Wayne Gallman 8 yd. pass from Watson (Huegel kick) 31-14
Ala 2:46 TD Kenyan Drake 6 yd. pass from Coker (Griffith kick) 38-14

[scoreless in the fourth]

Notable Stats:

Alabama
Derrick Henry - 152 yds on 27 carries
Kenyan Drake - 133 yds on 10 carries
Jake Coker - 20/31 for 185 yds

Clemson
Wayne Gallman - 54 yds on 28 carries
Deshaun Watson - 17/25 for 231 yds

Roll Tide, indeed.

So how would the Buckeyes have fared against Alabama, you ask? Alabama wins 27-17. Unfortunately, that sounds about right.
