A 2016 SOMers Fantasy Baseball League?

My son's and my fantasy baseball league folded.  This will only be the second or third summer since 1985 that I have not participated in a fantasy baseball league and I am having serious anxiety.  Hence, I am reaching out here to see if anyone would be interested.  It would be a 7x7 league:

AL and NL

23 player rosters

9 players, 7 pitchers (2 starters, 2 relievers, 3 starter/reliever) contribute to daily results, 7 player bench, 3 DL spots

Players: Ave, Runs, Hrs, RBIs, SB, OPS, Assists

Pitchers: Wins, Saves, Holds, Strikeout/BB ratio, WHIP, GIDPs, ERA (Minimum IP rule of 1,200 ips or automatic last place in wins, whip, era)

It is a free league on Yahoo!  I have set the draft for 10 pm EST on Saturday, March 26, but we probably will adjust time as managers indicate their availability.

No money will be involved.

Baseball is a long season.  The only thing I ask is that if you join you agree to play the year.  That means checking in a least weekly and setting your lineups.  Remove players on the DL out of your lineup.  Have a full lineup.  Yahoo! has a way that non-members can view results so we will post the link here from time to time.

I've played fantasy baseball from time to time since college and have always had a great time. I'm in.

I am in......but am concerned about the start time of 10pm EST, as I usually work Saturday nights. 11pm would work a little better for me, but I always could work around it I think......

Glad to have you aboard, Nac.  We will reschedule the time so it works for the league.

If you have never played Fantasy Baseball, this is a great opportunity to get in on the fun.  It is a competitive, but fun league.  Yahoo is loaded with statistics.

Yahoo posted its players to avoid in this year's fantasy baseball draft.  If you disagree, you can show us how much more you know than the so called fantasy experts by joining our league!  Seajaw, don't have a melt down.

Catcher

Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals

Injuries last two years have sapped power. At 33, he’s in full decline, at least offensively.

First base

Joe Mauer, Minnesota Twins

Limited power. Slipping batting averages. The veteran offers very little these days.

Second base

Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox

He’s a gamer, but injuries have taken their toll. No longer a lock for double-digit homers, and he doesn’t run anymore, either.

Shortstop

Jean Segura, Arizona Diamondbacks

Some hope atop a much better offense. Speed is his only real asset, though, and he struggles to reach base.

Third base

David Wright, New York Mets

The 33-year-old isn’t getting younger or healthier, and he’ll be rested often. Wright played just 38 games in 2015 and his power is in decline.

Outfield

Corey Dickerson, Tampa Bay Rays

Twenty-homer potential remains, but a foot injury, a possible platoon role and a move out of Coors Field make him less attractive.

Hanley Ramirez, Boston Red Sox

The 32-year-old is healthy and stronger, but he said that last year, too. Power remains, but a full rebound is unlikely.

Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers

He can’t stay off the disabled list, and he’ll open the season on it. Father Time and lower-body injuries have virtually sapped all of his skills.

Starting pitcher

Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners

King Felix turns 30 in April. His strikeout rate dropped off in 2015 and injury concerns now exist. He’s no longer a lock as a top-10 fantasy pitcher.

James Shields, San Diego Padres

Are the K’s worth it? He was second in baseball in walks last year, and homer allowance became a real issue. The decline may be starting.

Scott Kazmir, Los Angeles Dodgers

Fortunate hit and strand rates saved Kazmir’s ERA in 2015. At 32 years old, his skills are eroding quickly. Not even Dodgers Stadium will save him now.

Relief pitcher

Glen Perkins, Minnesota Twins

Back-to-back years now with second-half collapses aided by injuries. Minny has other potential options behind him, too.

No meltdown here.

Felix acknowledges he wasn't as good as he expects himself to be. He did post his highest ERA since 2007.

There are whispered concerns that he has accumulated damage in his elbow from all the innings he's tossed over the years (already been in the Bigs 11 years).

Or not so whispered, in the case of Andy Van Slyke... disbelief

Wow.  I am looking at Yahoo's top 10 players for the 2016 draft:

1. Mike Trout
2. Paul Goldschmidt
3. Bryce Harper
4. Clayton Kershaw
5. Josh Donaldson
6. Andrew McCutchen
7. Miguel Cabrera
8. Giancarlo Stanton
9. Manny Machado
10. Carlos Correa

The bolded players were all on my team last year!  Join the fun this year as we are having our first SOMers Fantasy Baseball League.  Five teams have signed up and I would like another 5-10 teams to join the fun.  No MONEY involved ... just a commitment to play the season through.

If you have never played, this is a fun league and a great place to join the experience.  Feel free to ask questions here or to send me a PM.  I am targeting the last weekend for of March our draft.

To date, here's who is committed to our league

Tall Tactician

Howling Wolves

Nacster

glewis

TT's Brother, Charles

Matthew Krone (from one of TT's fantasy football leagues, interested but not committed yet)

To move forward, I would like to have 10 teams committed, minimally.  We are halfway there.

The draft will be the last weekend of March or first weekend of April (more likely because of religious holiday the weekend before).

Please let me know if you have an interest.

Not too good.  We only have 5 people committed and I think it is a waste unless we have 9 or 10 managers.  At this point, I am going to push the draft back until next weekend.    But unless we get committed managers, I think we will need to cancel.  That said, if you know anyone who might be interested, please let me know.  I will send them an invite.
