HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA OCTOBER SCHEDULE RELEASED 

TORONTO, Ontario, Canada - The National Hockey League has announced the October schedule for Hockey Night in Canada beginning on Saturday, Oct. 11 with a doubleheader featuring the legendary Montreal Canadians and the league-leading Philadelphia Flyers. The late game will feature a Canadian matchup between the Pacific Division leading Edmonton Oilers and their conference rival Toronto Maple Leafs.

hnic.jpgAll six Canadian teams will appear on Hockey Night in Canada during the opening month of the season with the Canadians and Maple Leafs making two appearances each while the Ottawa Senators, Oilers, Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames making one appearance each.

In all six contests in October, the host team will be Canadian. Two of the six games will feature Canadian-based teams with Toronto playing at Edmonton (Oct. 11) and Montreal visiting Ottawa (Oct. 25). In addition to Original Six teams, Montreal and Toronto, the Boston Bruins will make an appearance on HNIC when they visit Calgary on Oct. 18. 

Hockey Night in Canada will feature two games with Canadian teams each and every Saturday night during the regular season. the games will be at 7:00 p.m. est and 10:00 p.m. est, and will also include first round playoff games in April.

Bob Cole will have the play-by-play for the Flyers-Canadians game with Greg Millan providing the color analysis. In the second game, Don Wittman will serve as the play-by-play voice in the second game with former goaltender John Davidison giving analysis.

NHL Notes

Boston Bruins goalkeeper Byron Dafoe was injured in the third period of the Bruins, 2-1, loss at Phoenix. Dafoe started the game and had a 1-0 lead before leaving the game with the injury early in the third periond. Dafoe had stopped all 22 shots he faced before giving way to Rob Tallas who was stung for a pair of goals including the game-winner by the Coyotes Rick Tocchet with just :48 seconds left in the game ... The New York Islanders suffered a massive injury when winger Ziggy Palffy suffered an injury in the thiord period of the Isles, 7-1, win over the Washington Capitals. Palffy, who is tied for the team lead with three goals, leads an Islander offense that has scored 13 goals in three games.
