Canadians Win First Game in Primetime
Montreal wins Hockey Night in Canada Debut

MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada - The Montreal Canadians and Mark Recchi came up with their best performances of the year in the Canadians first primetime game of the season as the Habs bounced the struggling Philadelphia Flyers, 6-1, at the Molson Centre in the season debut of Hockey Night In Canada.

nhl-recchi.jpgThe Canadians (1-2-1) handed the Flyers its third consecutive loss after spotting Philadelphia (3-3-0) a one goal lead when Paul Coffey scored at the nine minute mark. With the enthusiasm in the Molson Centre vanished, Stephane Quintal quickly revitalized the Montreal fans with the equalizer just 36 seconds later. The goal was the first of six unanswered goals for the Canadians.

Recchi, who recorded the season's third hat trick, gave Montreal a 2-1 lead with the game-winning goal and his third of the season coming at the 14:00 minute mark. Montreal took control of the game late in the second period when Jonas Hoglund scored at the 13:48 mark, It was the first of three Montreal goals in less than five minutes.

Mick Vukota made the score 4-1 three minutes and forty-eight seconds later and Recchi finished the second period scoring less than a minute later on a slap[shot from the right point. Recchi would complete the hat trick 1:24 into the third period on a one-timer from Brian Savage.
