In a good matchup it was the Kansas City Kings 5, the Baltimore Birds 3 at
Royals Stadium.

Baltimore was unable to climb back into it after Kansas City went ahead for
good in the bottom of the 7th inning plating an isolated run. Kansas City
had only 6 hits for the afternoon.

Luis Aquino(1-0) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jeff Montgomery gained credit for his 1st save. Bob Milacki(0-1)
took the loss.


TORONTO AT TEXAS

The Toronto Sky Birds readily handled Texas Texans by a score of 5 to 1 at
Arlington Stadium.

Todd Stottlemyre(1-0) gave Toronto a solid outing. He went 6 innings
surrendering 7 hits and 2 walks. Despite losing, Texas out-hit Toronto 12 to
5.

Nolan Ryan(0-1) took the loss. While he was the losing pitcher, he still
struck out 13 batters in 9 innings.

DETROIT AT BOSTON

In a close game the Detroit Tigers got by the Boston Red Sox by the score of 4
to 2.

Detroit came up with 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning. Detroit had 10 hits
for the game and Boston had 6. The win went to Paul Gibson(1-0) who allowed
no runs in 1 inning. Jerry Gleaton preserved the game for Gibson, recording
his his 1st save. Roger Clemens(0-1) ended up with the loss. He gave up 8
hits and 4 walks in 6 innings.


MILWAUKEE AT CHICAGO

Chuck Crim closed it out for Milwaukee and Dave Parker had 3 base hits and 3
RBI as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago White Sox 9 to 4 at
Comiskey Park.

Milwaukee promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they came up
with 3 runs on 3 hits. Milwaukee managed 13 hits in their victory.

Chris Bosio(1-0) went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Crim was
credited with his 1st save. Melido Perez(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He
was unable to control the Milwaukee offense and allowed 11 hits and 3 walks
in 5 and 2/3 innings.


MINNESOTA AT OAKLAND

In an entertaining game at Oakland Co Stadium the final score was the Oakland
Athletics 4, the Minnesota Twins 1.

Oakland started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first scoring a single run on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Carney
Lansford lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Jose Canseco came next and he laced
a base-knock. Minnesota had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory went to Dave Stewart(1-0) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 1
run. Dennis Eckersley earned his 1st save. Allan Anderson(0-1) was the
loser.


SEATTLE AT CALIFORNIA

Left fielder Greg Briley touched them all and had 3 RBI as the Seattle
Mariners outscored the California Angels 8 to 4.

In the 2nd inning Seattle went on top for good as they scored 2 runs on 1 base
hits. The big moment was provided by Briley who quieted the home crowd when
he blasted a two-run home run. Seattle had 13 hits for the night while
California had 7.

The win was credited to Brian Holman(1-0) who went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing
4 runs. Bert Blyleven(0-1) was the losing pitcher. He was hit hard and gave
up 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Larry Walker lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 4 RBI as the Montreal
Northerners defeated the St. Louis Red Birds in 10 innings 8 to 7 at Busch
Stadium.
 
The game was deadlocked at 7 after nine full innings.  Montreal was victorious
in the 10th inning.  Spike Owen smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'.  Tim Burke
was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.  Delino Deshields
followed, but he was set down on strikes.  Marquis Grissom followed next and
he doubled.  Ken Hill then let one get away for a wild pitch.  Tim Raines got
his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.  Montreal
totaled 14 hits on the night.  
 
Burke(1-0) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Hill(0-1) was the losing
pitcher in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 3 hits in 2 innings.
 
CINCINNATI AT HOUSTON

The Houston Astros easily topped the Cincinnati Reds; the final score was 8 to
2.
 
Houston drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when
they tallied 6 runs on 5 hits.  That was all Mike Scott(1-0) needed.
Although they lost, Cincinnati did out-hit Houston 13 to 10.  
 
Tom Browning(0-1) was hit with the loss.  He allowed 6 runs and 5 hits in 1/3
of an inning.
 
PITTSBURGH AT NEW YORK

It was a great finish at Shea Stadium as the New York Mets pulled off a
dramatic comeback beating the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 3 to 2.
 
New York had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 4
hits.  After an out was recorded, Kevin McReynolds was the sparkplug when he
banged out a single.  After another out, Barry Lyons came to bat and stroked
a base-hit.  Tim Teufel then lined a single.  Dave Magadan stepped in and he
lashed a single.  Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the afternoon.  
 
The victory was credited to Bob Ojeda(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Bill Landrum(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  
 
'What a game!,' Ojeda said afterward.  'When we won it I almost couldn't
believe it!'
 
SAN DIEGO AT LOS ANGELES

Center fielder Joe Carter had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Dodger Stadium as the
San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6 to 2.
 
San Diego tallied 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning when they came up with 4
base hits.  The highlight belonged to Fred Lynn who disappointed the partisan
crowd when he clubbed a three-run home run.  San Diego finished with 7 hits
in the victory.  
 
Bruce Hurst(1-0) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Orel
Hershiser(0-1) took the loss.  He surrendered 3 runs and 4 hits in 5 and 1/3
innings.

Dave Magadan had 2 base hits as the New York Mets rallied impressively to win
in dramatic style over Pittsburgh Pirates, 3 to 2.
 
New York scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs
on 4 base hits.  After an out was recorded, Kevin McReynolds started the
attack as he singled.  After another out, Barry Lyons stepped up to the plate
and he laced a base-knock.  Tim Teufel then ripped a one-base hit.  Magadan
followed and he stroked a single.  New York and Pittsburgh each finished the
afternoon with 8 hits.  
 
Bob Ojeda(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Bill
Landrum(0-1) was the loser in relief.  'That was exciting!,' Magadan said.
'I would have paid money to watch this one.'

Astros beat the Cincinnati Reds 6 to 5.
 
Houston scored 4 runs in the 7th inning when they had 4 base hits.  The key
at-bat was by Ramirez who made the crowd come alive when he banged out a
single bringing home two baserunners.  Cincinnati had a chance to come back
in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Jim Deshaies(1-0) went 7 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Deshaies got
relief help from Juan Agosto who gained credit for his 1st save.  Jose
Rijo(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 2
walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Joe Carter knocked 2 homeruns as the San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles
Dodgers by a score of 5 to 4 at Jack Murphy Stadium.
 
San Diego drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
when they came up with 3 runs on 5 hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by
Jack Clark who thrilled the crowd when he blasted a two-run home run.  Los
Angeles made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed
runs across.  
 
The victory went to Mark Grant(1-0) who went 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Craig Lefferts earned the save, his 1st.  Tim Belcher(0-1) was hit with
the loss.  He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 4 innings of work.  
 
Tom Lasorda was in a sour mood after the game.  'Even you guys up in the press
box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'
 
MONTREAL AT ST. LOUIS

bottom of the 9th.  
 
Roger McDowell(1-0) allowed no runs in 3 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Mike Bielecki(0-1) ended up with the loss.  He gave up 5 hits and 7
walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Stieb(1-0) was solid in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 5
hits and 5 walks in 9 innings. Toronto rapped out 10 hits for the night.

The losing pitcher was Charlie Hough(0-1). He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 6
innings.

Shortstop Spike Owen had 2 base hits at Busch Stadium where the Montreal Expos
beat the St. Louis Red Birds in 11 innings by the score of 4 to 3.
 
The score was tied at 3 after nine.  Montreal was victorious in the 11th
inning.  After an out was recorded, Tim Raines reached on an error.  After
another out, Andres Galarraga came to bat and delivered a single, and an
error was also committed.  Montreal banged out 12 hits on the afternoon.
 
Tim Burke(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Ken Dayley(0-1) was
charged with the loss in relief.  He was a hard-luck loser as he did not
allow an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.

Kevin Brown allowed only 3 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the scoreboard
for Toronto at The Skydome as the Texas Texans beat the Toronto Sky Birds 7
to 0.
 
Brown(1-0) was simply too much for the Toronto batters.  He gave up just 3
hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.  Texas finished with 14 hits in the victory.
 
John Cerutti(0-1) took the loss.  He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks
in 4 and 2/3 innings.  'He had his 'A' game tonight,' Bobby Valentine said of
Brown.  'Very impressive performance.'

 Really just a short weekend getaway - I have a place in Myrtle Beach S.C so came up for Friday / Sat / Sun / Mon   back to Puerto Rico on Tues
