You don't get too much better than Noah Syndergaard.

I once saw a game at Yankee Stadium Pedro vs. Mike Mussina - Mussina and the Yanks won 1-0.

Yeah, I was hoping to get Scherzer but he starts on Tuesday, so I miss him by a day.....or even Corey Kluber for the Indians or Chris Archer for the Rays.

Syndergaard is no bum for sure, but out of 10 teams you would think you could get lucky at least 3 or maybe 4 of them.

EXCURSION UPDATE........Tuesday morning

Well, the day has arrived.......it is 7:45 am and I am off to Pittsburgh for Day 1 of the 2016 Baseball Excursion.

It is bright sun as I leave Fairport, NY....and most likely this is the last time I am going to see anything close to it for the rest of the week.  Gotta get a little lucky from here on out.

I should arrive in Pittsburgh about 2ish, and will update the weather upon arrival.  Right now they are calling for about 40% chance of rain in the late afternoon and evening up till about 10pm.  Which of course is right during game time.

DAY #1..........San Diego versus Pittsburgh at PNC Park

Made the trip in good time, no problems, got checked in and hung around the motel for a little bit, but got antsy about 2pm.  Drove to the park, was about half an hour or so, got into the parking garage, then walked around downtown a bit.  Found a great sports bar right across from the Clemente Bridge, and had lunch till about 4pm then made the walk over.  Got a ton of pics will I will post, hopefully I can figure out why they come out sideways on here.

The park is amazing.  Small, you are close to the action though.  The lower decks were just about full, the upper decks and bleachers about half full each.  My seats were at the back of the infield, first base line, about 20 rows back; super close.

It was hot as blazes, breaks of sun, then right after the anthem they pulled out the tarp.  I guess there was "inclement weather" in the area.  It drizzled for about 20 minutes, then stopped...game was delayed until 7:40 (35 minutes).

Wil Myers of the Padres looks like the most disinterested player I have ever seen.

Phil Cuzzi is the absolute worst umpire in baseball.  There were TWO plays at second base where he was stationed that the Pirates called on instant replay for, both times Cuzzi called the runner out, both times replay over-turned it, and neither of them were really close.

Pirates won 6-4, so they raised the Jolly Roger lol.  Pirates starter Chad Kuhl gave up 2 runs in the first (with some help by a ball badly misplayed by McCutchen in center that of course went for a double even though he flat out dropped it; Myers had a two bouncer hit RIGHT TO HIM that he kicked about 30 feet back towards home plate and they gave the batter a hit on that too.  The only errors you ever see any more are throws.  Ridiculous.), but pitched shutout ball for 5 innings after.  I was not impressed, the Padres have Wil Myers and a bunch of AA players.  It really looked like a "last week of the season" lineup they put out tonight.

Two turning points in the game...one was when the Padres had two out, the 8th place hitter up (Sean Rodriguez, who has been hot), and a man on third in the 4th inning.  Instead of walking Rodriguez to get to the pitcher, they pitched to Rodriguez who naturally lined a base hit to tie the game at that time at 2-2 (I am just scratching my head at the time, thinking why aren't they walking Rodriguez?  Kuhl had 4 career at bats before tonight.).  The other was Cuzzi getting overturned...but Josh Harrison made the play, he got picked off, but beat the throw from Myers to the SS with a GREAT slide.

I have to figure out the problem with my pics...then off to bed, it is a long day tomorrow!
