Sounds like a good way to kickoff the road trip!  Hope Cuzzi doesn't follow you around.  wink

I will see your Cuzzi, and raise you an Adrian Johnson.

Johnson was horrendous here in Seattle tonight.

I'm glad you got the game in.  It's after midnight here, so I'll check out the pics in the morning.

EXCURSION UPDATE (8am, Pittsburgh)

Leaving the motel soon to drive to DC, it is a little over 4 hours to the stadium, 4:05 start so I should get there, accounting for traffic, no later then 2pm, which gives me time to scope out the park.  Not as much as yesterday, but from what I hear, the park is kind of bland (was chatting with a couple fans who have been there a lot).

Supposedly, no rain is in the forecast at all!!

Great pics from Pittsburgh (except some guy keeps getting in the way of stuff biggrin).

Would like to have seen more of the Roberto Clemente Bridge.  Is there a commemorative plaque?

On to DC!

Surprisingly no, although his statue is at the stadium end right as you exit the bridge.  It is closed to traffic when there is a game that day, otherwise it accommodates regular traffic.  Honestly it is just a big yellow bridge lol.

I can tell you, as a forewarning, Nationals Park is a dump.

EXCURSION UPDATE (2am Thursday morning)

DAY #2..........Cleveland versus Washington at Nationals Park

Beautiful day for a game........if you sat along the 3rd base side.  That is where the shade is at Nats Park.  Anyone who sat in the sun got fried.  Temps were in the low 90's, heat index last I knew was 102.  I was in the shade (that was planned when I got the tix, JUST in case).

The stadium itself isn't bad, but there just is no intimacy, like PNC, or Camden Yards even.  It is kind of just a big slab on concrete, just like that person told me it would be (that I posted in the PNC review).  Seats aren't bad, very few obstructed ones, and they are in the right field stands back by the concourse, so those tix are probably pretty cheap anyways.  Mine were $35 face value, I will be posting a vid and other pics after this post, so you will see I had pretty good seats.

Washington won 7-4, Josh Tomlin was hit pretty good, but their RF Abraham Almonte misplayed 2 balls pretty badly (one of which of course was the "generous double" sort, where the ball hit him right smack dab in the pocket as they showed on super-slo-close-up replay.).  Gio Gonzalez works fast...but threw 103 pitches in 5+ innings, so it kind of negates how fast he works.

That is another good thing about the park, their scoreboard is clear as a bell...PNC's was all fuzzy and honestly kind of small.  It really was the only negative about that place.

One other thing.  Nationals Park is far from a "park".  Definitely more like a "stadium".

I got two hot dogs and a water and it was $17.50.  Ugh.  That is why I don't buy stuff at the park ($6.25 for each dog, $5 for H2O).  But I knew I wasn't going to eat again till midnight so I kind of had to.

That stadium is located near the Navy Yards, and really isn't in a great place.  LOTS of construction, buildings going up, etc.  In 5 years though it is going to be gorgeous down there.

So I was walking to the game, and took out my phone to post something.  I walked about, maybe 50 feet through a construction tunnel on the sidewalk, and GASP!!.....I lost my ticket!!!  I panicked!!!!!!!...............it must have fallen out when I took out my phone.  GREAT, it is windy as all heck down there!!

I backtracked the tunnel........and WHEW........there it was lying on the street corner!!

THAT would have sucked!!!

Citi Field tomorrow, bright and early (12:10 first pitch, an hour or so drive to get there).  Rain is in the forecast during the afternoon for a couple hours, so we may geta  bit of a delay.  I will keep you posted!!

Good stuff.

And you're two-for-two so far, despite the ominous weather forecast you had before you left home.

Great stuff.

I went to Nationals Park last year (April 2015), so I was surprised when you called it a dump, but your more detailed summary is closer to what I experienced. The area isn't great, still under construction, and the park lacks personality. My wife actually said she like it better than Fenway, which is of course, blasphemy, but she was talking about the large concourse around the park (compared to Fenway) and the cleanliness. She could care less about personality.

I saw the plague of the Big Train - I have a similar picture - but either missed the statues or they just put them up this year.

Gonna be 3-for-3 today, all the rain came last night, gonna be partly sunny and hot again!!!......I'm really pushing my weather luck after seeing all the long range stuff that looked horrible.

EXCURSION UPDATE (Day 4)

Sorry for the lack of update yesterday.  Between getting in super late on Wednesday, and having to get up super early on Thursday for the madness that is New York City driving, and also allowing for the super madness after the game (almost 3 hours to drive 50 miles), then being hungry/tired/sundrained (yes, SUN.....and HEAT!!.....and plenty of it too), I went to bed super early and got up super late today.  This even was after yesterday leaving in the bottom of the 6th.....had to, the game was (and ended) 9-0 Arizona, and between the 93 degree heat and 104 heat index, my body was drained.

The afternoon games have been messing up my routine with these things, and more so cramming 5 games into 5 days with the travelling.....and TRAFFIC!

Anywho.....the game........Noah Syndergaard was great for 3 innings, then the wheels fell off.  He can't hold on a runner, they were stealing bases without a throw.  THE OPPOSING PITCHER (Shipley) stole one without a throw!!!!!  That has been his one downside this year, I forgot the stats but he has been absolutely brutal on holding runners, and the opposition success rate for stealing is like over 90%.

I actually saw A REAL FIELDING ERROR!!!!..........but it comes with a disclaimer, the Mets shortstop had what probably was a 3 hopper which he didn't even move for, go "right between the wickets".  IT was as blatant as an error could be..........yet I found myself watching the scoreboard to see if they actually were going to score it an error.  Ridiculous.

Believe it or not, concessions at the Mets game are CHEAPER then Pittsburgh....in fact of the 3 stadiums so far, Pittsburgh's was HIGHER then Citi Field OR Nationals Park.

3-for-3 in weather, although Citi Field is not designed for sun.  VERY few spots with shade.  Today/tonight in Philadelphia is going to make it 4-for4, as the forecast calls for clear skies.  I still cannot believe the weather I am getting, after the forecasts at the beginning of the week.

Citi Field is..........amazing.  The pictures and video to follow doesn't do it justice.  I rate it even with Pittsburgh.  Pittsburgh is more intimate because of the smaller size and fewer decks, but their scoreboard was fuzzy and small, which knocks it down even with Citi.  The tributes to Jackie Robinson in the Rotunda were awesome.  The Mets Hall of Fame was very cool...come to think of it, I didn't see a Pirates Hall of Fame area.
