Red Embree carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning and shortstop Lou Boudreau

jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI as the Cleveland Indians

outscored the St. Louis Browns 4 to 0.

Embree(1-0) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the St. Louis offense.  He

was stingy on the mound, allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings.  The

right-handed Embree lost his chance for a no-hitter when Johnny Berardino

doubled with one out in the 8th inning.  Cleveland banged out 9 hits on the

night.

Denny Galehouse(1-1) was the losing pitcher.  By surrending 4 runs in 7 and

2/3 innings his ERA jumped from 2.57 to 3.68.  'He had his 'A' game tonight,'

Boudreau said of Embree.  'Very impressive performance.'
