Getting back to your comment about Cobb and the '27 A's..............that year the A's actually were good. They won 91 games, and Cobb hit .357 in 133 games. It was in 1928 he got old pretty fast (although Cobb was 40 in 1927). Simmons hit .393 in 1927. But think of it this way...........as good as the A's were that season, they hit 56 homers as a team, which was 2nd in the American League.  RUTH HIMSELF HIT 60!

THAT is how dominant the Yankees were in 1927.

I can't even comprehend how good Babe Ruth was...to hit more home runs than every other team in the league!!! In an era where the ball was "dead" essentially. Not as bad as it was in 1911, but still, not as lively as it is now.

I wish we were able to see him play today. Along with so many other greats that we will never get to see, not even in videos.

Bill James said something about Ruth....and I am paraphrasing.........but he said that essentially everything Ruth did, someone else did around the same time.  Ruth however was the first to do these things year after year........

SO LONG AND FAREWELL

It has been a blast sharing "1990 - Short but Sweet" with you guys. This was a fun project with a format I have also used with 1911, 1927, 1966, 1969, 1977, 1990, 2003, 2014, and 2015 and now I will be continuing utilizing this format for my future replays after finding out what works best for me. Once again, thank you to Bill (C&D Man) for the help with this format and letting me make it into my own.

Every game meant something because of the short 42-game season and if you did not play well you could see yourself on the outside looking in once it came playoff time. This format also gives every team a great opportunity to come away with a World Series title. This was definitely an awesome card set and I got to know some players I did not know along with some other greats such as Rickey Henderson, Barry Bonds, Jose Canseco, Darryl Strawberry, Roger Clemens, and Dennis Eckersley. We were close to having some records broken as well, as Darryl Strawberry came oh so close to tying the single-season home run record.

Play began on August 13, 2016 and ended June 17, 2017. Play took 308 days to complete 168 regular-season games and six World Series games. Approximately 0.57 games were played per day. I mostly blame this small amount of games being played busy with school and baseball, but hopefully I can get my next projects done a little quicker.

Be looking for my next project... "1971 - Short but Sweet" featuring the top eight teams from 1971 competing in a format extremely similar to this one. Thank you to all of those who followed and commented, you guys keep me going.

That's why he was so good, he was consistently good for so long. 714 home runs when that was unheard of back in the day, playing for one of the greatest franchises and dynasties in sports. It's awesome.

It's crazy to think that Mike Trout is on pace to have more hits than Pete Rose, more homers than Ruth, and more runs scored than Rickey Henderson.

Yes I'm extremely excited for it! There's a ton of awesome individual seasons too!

The Pirates were the first team to win multiple WS titles in this format, winning in 1977 and 2015. Maybe they will make that three in '71. wink

LOL....1971 was the first year I started playing Strat.  MY buddy had some of the old-style cards and in the Spring of 1972 I bought my first set, the '71 season, it was the first year Strat introduced double-sided cards with the advanced side.  It was "advanced" compared to the seasons back then (remember, at that time the game itself was only 9 years old).

The cards went from this..........
