S.D. must have been upset about dropping the first 2 games of the series. How many pitchers did the Marlins go through in the 9 run 8th (or did you just let someone take the drubbing at that point)?

Mike Morgan is still trying to find a role on this team. It was already ugly when he entered the game. Finally Miami couldn't take it anymore.

California had the game winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 4 runners on 5 hits. The biggest moment was provided by Reggie Jackson who disappointed the partisan crowd when he lost the ball over the fence for three runs. Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the afternoon. The victory was credited to Chuck Finley(2-0) who went 3 innings, allowing no runs. Donnie Moore recorded the save, his 3rd. Dan Quisenberry(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. Mike Ferraro was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose. To steal an old White Sox slogan, Colorado is "winning ugly" for that last game (appropriate since it was the White Sox that they beat). The ninth inning two run comeback had 5 BBs, 2Ks and a WP. A ball wasn't put into play and the victory was a true "walk" off.

BOT 9- Lopes-W, Urrutia-W, WP, Takazawa-K, Linares-W, Maldonado-W, Upshaw-K,Thon-W

In scanning the rosters, the Japanese pitchers seem to give up a lot of walks. Ishimoto was the losing pitcher for the Sox. Did he give up all those walks?

Impressive that Colorado 8-0 even with easy schedule so far. Who is managing those guys? smile

Ishimoto was a big time closer in Japan. His MLE card gives him 39 saves. He had not been used much this season and Jim Fregosi let him pitch out of a jam...or not. Dawley and Saito had already been used. These MLB managers need to see what they have in all these new players. Colorado continues to get the breaks, but I think there day is coming.

Overall the MLE does give the Japanese guys a lot of walks.

In case you wanted to know...Sparky Lyle is the Rockies manager. Robin Roberts is the pitching coach. Don Kessinger is the 1b coach. Gordy Coleman is the 3b coach.

All good baseball men. Surprising to me, Sparky Lyle spent 15 very successful years managing the Somerset Patriots who retired his number.

back in the 9th.
