A really odd moment

I wasn't sure where I wanted to go with this.  It isn't a great moment, but it's greatly unusual.

I was rolling the White Sox at Washington, with switch-hitting Dave Philley at the dish against Sen' righthander Connie Marrero.

In real life, Philley hit 14 home runs, four against righties in 341 AB's according to what baseref says.  He hit the other eight in 135 AB's vs. southpaws.

On his card, Philley has "W" power against righthanded pitchers, though he does have home runs on 3-2 and 3-3 (split 1-14).  His homers against lefties are 3-2, 3-3, 3-4 and 3-5 (1-6).

Marrero surrendered 17 homers, eight against righty swingers (in 366 AB) and nine against lefties (226 AB).

Remember, Philley is batting lefthanded against Marrero.

In his first AB, leading off the game, Philley homers (I rolled a 3-3, split 9).  His next time up, I rolled a 4-10 solid N-HR on Marrero's card.  Except, it's not a home run, because Philley is a "W" power hitter versus righthanded pitchers! disbelief

Go figure.

Right now, as I type this, it's the difference in the game, because they just entered the top of the 15th inning.

The hand's fine. wink  I took a break after I posted the OP, to sit and watch some stuff on TV with my wife.  I'll finish rolling the game in the morning.

I'm not doing any summary writing at this point.  I'm not even near that stage.

I usually don't even start writing game summaries until I'm two-thirds of the way through rolling a season.  As it is right now, I'm still working on games 17-20 on the A.L. side.

Things are slowing down, as we move through the holiday season.

And -- as I mentioned in the new releases thread -- this will all get set aside when '49 arrives, so that I can roll that campaign and present the replays in chronological order.

Hopefully, I'll be ready to start rolling '49 in early March, after I check out the rosters and get all my prep work done.  To pass the time, I may go ahead and post the one other season I haven't done here yet, 1927.

I have all of those summaries in my files from when I posted it at a different site about 8-9 years ago.

I went and checked Philley's Home Run Log at baseref and he actually did hit a homer against Marrero in 1950.

It was an inside-the-park homer at Comiskey Park.

It was the only one he hit against Marerro, so the game must have figured it right.

Yup!
