Game 2

SFG   6  7 0

LAD   5  6 0

WP- Marichal (1-0) 6 IP, 5 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 4 K

LP- Bowers (0-1) 1.2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K

SV- Nen (1) 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K

2B- Glaus (1), Hamilton (1)

HR- Wells (2), McCovey (1), Guerrero (1), Brett (2), Maris (1)

RBI- Wells (2), McCovey 3 (3), Guerrero (1), Posey (1), Hamilton 2 (2), Ramirez (2), Brett (3), Maris (1)

Marichal comes away with the giants first victory of the season, but he didn't have the control his stat line appears to show. in the 4th inning he plunked Snider and Haywood back to back, and gave up a double and 2 homers in his 4 hits allowed. The second Homerun allowed was a Pinch hit HR by Roger Maris in the 5th. Kershaw allowed a leadoff homerun to wells to start the game, then retired the next 9 batters, he seemed to be cruising along until the 4th. mays poked a single to start the inning, bonds drew a walk and McCovey hit a no doubter to make the game 4-0 in favor of the giants. Kershaw allowed 5 ER in his 5 IP, and Maris pinch hit Homerun in the 5th took him off the hook, as it tied the game at 5 apiece. Bowers gave up a Homerun to guerrero, the first batter he faced in, and that would end up being the last run scored. 6-5 giants to tie the series.

Game 3

SFG   7 13 0

LAD   0  7 1

WP- Bumgarner (1-0) 9 IP, 0 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 8 K, CG, SHO

LP- Greinke (0-1) 6 IP, 5 ER, 11 H, 6 BB, 6 K

2B- Terry (1), Mays (1), Robinson (1), Piazza (1)

3B- Terry (1)

HR- Bonds (1)

RBI- Wells (3), Terry (1), Bonds (1), Mays (1), Whitaker 2 (2), Bumgarner (1)

Bumgarner Shuts down the dodgers in the rubber game. Obviously the first shut out of the season recorded. He also went 1-4 with a sac fly, recording the first RBI by a pitcher this season. He did not get the first hit however, Greinke is the one with that honor. Bonds was intentionally walked in the third with a runner on 3rd and 2 outs, and in the 4th with runners on second and third with 2 outs. they didn't walk him in the 6th, as he led off the inning, and he launched his first homerun of the season. Bonds has been walked 6 times in 14 Plate appearances in the first 3 games. Whitaker went 3-5 in his first start of the season.

Series 2 is another Rivalry. Shifting from a pitchers friendly park of dodger stadium, to a much more hitter friendly park at busch stadium.

Game 1

CHC  11 14 2

STL   7  8 1

WP- Meredith (1-0) 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K

LP- Clippard (0-1) 1.1 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 1 K

2B- Lee (1), Hornsby (1)

HR- Pennebaker (1), Wilson 2 (2), Sosa (1), Sandberg (1), Hornsby (1), Walker (1), McGwire (1)

RBI-Pennebaker 2 (2), Lee (1), Wilson 3 (3), Sosa (1), Banks (1), Sandberg 3 (3), Hornsby 2 (2), Walker 2 (2), McGwire 3 (3)

Gooden vs. Carlton, not the pitchers duel it should have been, with each pitcher going only 5 innings, gooden allowing 7 ER, and carlton 4. 8 home runs were hit in this game and they're just getting warmed up.

Game 2

CHC   8 11 0

STL   9 12 0

WP- Peavy (1-0) 2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 K

LP- Cordero (0-1) .2 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 1 K

SV- Hoffman (1) 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K

2B- Lee (2), Hornsby (2), Musial (1)

3B- Sandberg (1), Banks (1)

HR- Lee (1), Hartnett 2 (2), Walker (2), McGwire (2), Edmonds (1)

RBI- Lee (2), Sandberg 3 (6), Hartnett 3 (3), Arrieta (1), Walker 2 (4), McGwire 2 (5), Edmonds 5 (5)

SB- Pennebaker (1)

Arrieta vs Gibson, yet another pitching duel.....or not. Arrieta was respectable allowing 4 in 6 innings, but Gibson, like usual for me, allowing 7 in 5. there were not quite as many homeruns in this game, only 6. the cardinals 4 pitchers combined to strike out 18 cubs batters. the cardinals took the lead with a 5 run 7th, capped off by a jim Edmonds grand slam.

Game 3

CHC   4  4 1

STL   6 10 0

WP- Dean (1-0) 8 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 6 K

LP- Brown (0-1) 3 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 1 K

SV- Hoffman (2) 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K

2B- Musial (2)

3B- Santo (1)

HR- Sandberg (2), Grace (1), Hornsby (2), Walker (3), McGwire 2 (4)

RBI- Sandberg (7), Santo (1), Grace 2 (2), Hornsby 2 (4), Walker 2 (6), McGwire 2 (7)

6 more home runs, 10 for each team in the series. Dean dominated for 7 innings, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk before the 8th. Three Finger Brown gave up 3 HR and a single in a 4 batter stretch and was pulled after 3 innings for serving up too many meatballs.

Game 1

PIT  3  8 0

CIN  2  8 1

WP- Chance (1-0) 7 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 2 K

LP- Seaver (0-1) 8 IP, 2 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 9 K

SV- Gossage (1) 1 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K

2B- Wagner (1), Larkin (1), Seaver (1)

HR- Delgado (1), Foster (1)

RBI- Wagner (1), Delgado 2 (2), Foster 2 (2)

SB- Gwynn (1), Griffey (1)

CS- Wagner (1)

Game 1 was a good game, neither pitcher deserved the loss, but George Foster's error in the 8th gave Biggio second base and Wagner doubled him home to give Pitt the lead. Cincy gave Gossage trouble in the 9th, with runners at second and third with 2 outs, Pinch hitter Smokey Burgess struck out to end the game.

Game 2

PIT  5 10 0

CIN  1  5 0

WP- Adams (1-0) 8 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 K

LP- Walsh (0-1) 8 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 4 BB, 5 K

2B- Biggio (1), Wagner (2)

HR- Delgado (2), Parker (1), Votto (1)

RBI- Delgado 2 (4), Parker 3 (3), Votto (1)

SB- Biggio (1)

Adams was excellent allowing only 5 base runners in 8 innings.

Game 3

PIT  8 11 0

CIN  9 13 0

WP- Chapman (1-0) 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K

LP- Gossage (0-1) 2+ IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K

2B- Biggio (2), Giles 2 (2), Kiner (1), Griffey 2 (2), Guerrero (1), deGrom 2 (2)

3B- Burgess (1)

HR- Delgado (3), Parker 2 (3), Griffey (1), Votto (2)

RBI- Biggio (1), Giles 2 (2), Delgado 2 (6), Parker 3 (6), Morgan (1), Griffey 3 (3), Votto (2), Burgess 2 (2), deGrom (1), Kluszewski (1)

Surprised these 2 teams were not putting out the offense, but they found it today. The first extra inning game of the season ended dramatically, with aroldis chapman striking out all 3 batters he faced in the top of the 10th. Griffey led off the bottom of the 10th with a walk off home run, his 3rd extra base hit to go along with 2 walks and a strike out in the game.

"6 more home runs, 10 for each team in the series."

Wow.  Twenty home runs in three games.  That's quite a stretch for any two teams.
