History was made in New York 1939 as Tom Phoebus(3-0) tossed a no-hitter and
the Baltimore 1969 Orioles defeated the New York 1939 Yankees by the score of
5 to 0.

Phoebus had an evening to remember. He walked 2 New York 1939 batters. What
an evening for the fans. They were on the edge of their seats from the 7th
inning on. With every out, the electricity in the air mounted. Neither team
managed to score after the 4th inning.

Red Ruffing(1-2) was the loser. After the game, Phoebus was heard to say,
'This is something I have dreamt about since I was a little boy - to have it
come true is just amazing!'

Thanks for the congrats and for checking in. The pitching of the Orioles has been just amazing! They can't keep that up, can they?

Stratfan, you're right, the 1939 Yankees are very good offensive team. However, the game before, the Yankees played the 31 A's shut them out behind Lefty Grove. In both games, DiMaggio and Keller were out of the lineup - that helped a lot!

Still, the Orioles pitching ... 1.54 TEAM ERA after 13 games! I have never seen anything like this!
