The Browns ultimately didn't need Johnson, as Greg Pruitt came along in time to replace Leroy Kelly. But the loss of Paul Warfield is a different matter. Did they really need a higher pick to get someone as good as Phipps? I guess hindsight is always 20/20.

Bill Nelson was on the tail end of his career and the Browns really needed a QB who could throw.

1970 was a sorry year for drafting a QB.  Had they waited until 1971, the prospects were much better (including Theismann in the fourth round).  With all they gave up, perhaps trading for a QB would have been better (or trading up for Bradshaw).

Both Pete Liske and rookie QB John Reaves couldn't do anything wrong as they both threw well against the Dallas pass defense, which is rated Average to Poor.

With Roger Staubach injured, Craig Morton has to step up and do a better job at protecting the ball.

The next QB to take shots at the Cowboys' pass defense is Norm Snead, who needs to bounce back after going 12-25 against the Lions.

The stuff you can find out.....

Tim van galder played 4 years (1967, 1971-1973) in the NFL but only saw action in 1972. He was drafted by the oilers in 1966 in the 2nd round.

His given name is actually THOMAS Scott van galder....how they came up with Tim I have no clue.

He was pretty bad in his 5 games, one TD and 7 picks.

I cannot find any info as to how he lost his job.

All I know is that he won the starting job in the preseason. After a few games they went with Cuozzo, the veteran of the three QB's. They went back to Van Galder, then Cuozzo, and Jim Hart ended up finishing the season. The Cards just couldn't make up their mind.

Could you imagine how QB's are coddled now, them doing double duty like Pastorini did?

Pretty sure the last one who did the double duty regularly was Danny White.......

Could you imagine how QB's are coddled now, them doing double duty like Pastorini did?

Pretty sure the last one who did the double duty regularly was Danny White.......

With only 40-man active rosters, they had to. Some of them did triple duty as some of them were also the holder for place kicks. Plus, they weren't the only ones. There were Jim O'Brien (K, WR), Donny Anderson (P, HB), and Bill Bradley (P, PR, FS). Anderson and Bradley were starters.

Even funnier....if you want to use that wording....were guys like Lou Groza, Steve Myrha, or Lou Michaels who were LINEMAN in addition to kickers......could you imagine Vince Woolfolk lining up for a kick to win a Super Bowl lol.
