Did you know...

One hundred years ago today, the Seattle Metropolitans became the first U.S.-based club to win the Stanley Cup?

I went to check out the display that was set up at the Washington Athletic Club.

The WAC is located on the same block where the Metropolitans' home, the Seattle Arena, was located.

Among the items on display were two sweaters, a pair of skates, and the cup awarded to Metropolitan forward Frank Foyston, after he was named the Pacific Coast Hockey Association's Most Valuable Player in their championship season.

One of the jerseys was worn by Foyston in the 1923-'24 season, and the skates were also Foyston's, worn during the latter stages of his career.

The other jersey belonged to goaltender Harry "Hap" Holmes, also from later in his career.

Both Holmes and Foyston are in the National Hockey League Hall of Fame.

It wasn't a huge display.  And, from what I heard, there might have been original assumptions that Lord Stanley's Cup might also be along for the ride.

Sadly, that wasn't the case.

But the smaller display, in a setting such as this, makes it possible to get close enough to take a picture in which you can read the inscription on the MVP cup (I was holding my tablet about three inches away from the display case).

There also wasn't a huge crowd, so I was able to take all the time I needed (and all the pics, as this ancient tablet I was using has a set focus, and I wanted to make sure I had suitable shots for this thread).

Thanks.

There was a nice article in the New York Times today, about our Mets:
