As a Dodger fan I can't say this disappointed me too much. He's a fine pitcher but he has always irritated me with his redneck machismo thing, and I have always felt his reputation slightly outpaced his actual value. If the Dodgers can get by without Kershaw, who is a better pitcher, for two months, the Giants will manage. Although I hope they don't.

 Back in 1979 or 1980, Larry Christenson who was a young, promising pitcher for the Phillies, rode a bike as part of a charity event and fell crossing rail road tracks injuring his shoulder. He was never the same. I hope Bumgarner has  better results. But I agree with the general sentiment that such activities are foolish when you are a professional athlete, especially during the season.
