Posting Guidelines - tables in HTML
Permalink

General question on posting. I noticed in the posting guidelines where the editor will strip out certain tags like [table]. Yet if I use the advanced editor and create a table in the Visual tab and then switch to the HTML view it shows all the [table] tags. So can I just create my own tables in a text editor and c&p them here?

You can create a table right from MS Excel and drop it in without specifying any criteria. Just select the table function and paste it from the center of the little table that appears when you click the table button.

To be fair, I am not an HTML expert. But the basic language here is BBcode which does translate HTML to an extent. I have occasionally inserted an HTML tag (or erased one) with the expected result. All's I can do is suggest you try it and let us know. MarkFranAnthony has done a lot with formatting here. Some of our other users may also be knowledgeable. The one area you may need to be careful is with the width of the table.

Just looked at your 1949 project. If you are trying to post box scores, use courier (fixed font). All the rest of the fonts are proportional. It should save you time.

Thanks for the tips - I'm going to tinker with the straight HTML for the layout, I use it a good bit in work so I'm pretty familiar with it. I'll post back once I'm done experimenting.
