Thanks, I have been wanting to do this one for a while. I think having people following makes it even more rewarding. Now that I have started, I have been wondering if any of the other "Evil Empire" teams can knock off the 27 yanks.

Check out Nitrous Oxide's 1927 Yankees project.  HIGHLY unlikely..........

wow! I just checked it out and wow.  The one good thing is it's only a short series... ANYTHING can happen.  Plus, it sounds like he really studied and tweaked the teams a great deal.  Very impressive and waaaay above my expertise.  I remain hopeful that I will finally see them lose.  However, if they did, I would have to give them one of the 2 wild card slots in the championship anyway.

I won't be at all surprised if the 27 Yankees don't win the Yankee's tournament.

In the final series of round one

(8) 73 NYM  defeat (9) 75  NYM 4-1...Not an enjoyable series to play. Both teams had many of the same players (something I had not considered).  2nd round match ups coming soon.

(15) 95 NYM defeat (1) 86 NYM...The 95 NYM continue their "Cinderella" tournament by knocking out the(1) 86 NYM (who NEVER have played well in tournaments or mixed years for me). 95 NYM outscore their opponent 32-19 over the 5 games.

(3) 85 NYM defeat (8) 73 NYM 4-3...The 85 NYM survive to play another day. Gooden wins 1-0 vs Seaver in games 4 and 7.  73 NYM outscore 85 NYM 18-16 over the 7 games.

next up...(7) 05 NYM vs (4) 99 NYM

Two Gooden-Seaver 1-0 games in one series???

It doesn't get more exciting than that (would have been nice, had Seaver won at least one of them).

Given the relative strengths of the batting orders, though, Gooden certainly had the easier task.  I'm guessing Kooz did well, considering the series went seven games.  Jerry always did have the better postseason numbers.

You are right seajaw, it was a great series. Koosman was lights out, He won 9-3 and pitched 9 scoreless in a 1-0 10th inning victory. Matlack won 7-3 in game 3.  Unfortunately for 73, in the other 4 games they lost 3-0, 1-0, 5-1 and 1-0.  Great pitching performances for both teams in the series, a lot of fun to play. 73 just didn't string together any hits in their 4 losses. Kooz had a 1.27 era for the tournament, he was dominant.

I would agree nacster.  Good pitching, decent bats, decent fielding.  They are the team that I thought would win. 99 has great bats and a very good infield but outfield defense is awful and pitching is mediocre at best.  07 has the bats but the pitching is poor and I have no idea how 95 has advanced against the 69 Mets AND the 86 Mets.  I would be shocked if they knock out 85. I will find out tomorrow.  This is a fun project, I can't wait to start playing the other teams!
