I would agree nacster.  Good pitching, decent bats, decent fielding.  They are the team that I thought would win. 99 has great bats and a very good infield but outfield defense is awful and pitching is mediocre at best.  07 has the bats but the pitching is poor and I have no idea how 95 has advanced against the 69 Mets AND the 86 Mets.  I would be shocked if they knock out 85. I will find out tomorrow.  This is a fun project, I can't wait to start playing the other teams!

The 86 team greatly underperformed in my replay too...........only 94 wins............they were only 55-43 on August 1st before finding their groove a bit........the Astros beat them in the LCS and the Jays won the title..........

Funny, in my replay the Astros lost to California in the series.  Mets had 92 wins and also lost to the Astros.

Somehow I left out TWO round 2 series.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               (4) 99 NYM defeat (7) 05 NYM 4-2...Piazza 3 hrs 5 rbi in the series.

(6) 07 NYM  defeat (5) 15 NYM 4-3... In game 6, the 07 NYM were 1 out form elimination when Beltran swatted a 2 run walk off HR off of Famillia.  07 went on to win game seven and win the series 4-3. Beltran had 5 HRS and 11 RBIs in the series.

ROUND 3                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         (15)  95 NYM defeat (3) NYM 4-3...  In game 6, 95 Brogna breaks up 85 Goodens perfect game (the closest I have ever been to a perfecto) with 0 outs in the 8th with a HR.  95 loses 5-1 but in game 7, Brogna explodes for 2 HRs off Ron Darling and (15) 95 NYM somehow advance to the finals!

(4) 99 NYM defeat (6) 07 NYM 4-3... In a strat first for me, Hal had 07 Reyes steal home successfully in game 7 against me.  Good stuff!  However, it was short lived.  99 Piazza who did nothing through the first 6 games, hit 2 HRs in game 7 and the 99 NYM advance to the finals ( as a heavy favorite ) with a 5-3 victory.

It's unreal. I have never seen anything like it.  EVERY time 95 needs a big hit....they get it.  I don't ever remember such an inferior team beating heavy favorites series after series.  I am torn, in a way, I would like to see them pull it off but it would doom the Mets in the Tournament Of Champions.  Of course, that ship may have already sailed. I almost made the franchise tournaments 8 teams but ultimately went with 16.  I couldn't see eliminating some of the great NYY, STL, BRK/LAD, NY/SF (ETC)  teams without giving them a chance to compete.  I'm already happy with my choice, it's fun trying to slay the dragons.

No, you made the right call using 16 teams.  It is just one of those things that happen in short series.

Looking at their stats a little bit, they actually UNDER achieved in real life.  Their Pythegorean record.....the record they should have had using a formula regarding runs scored and allowed.......shows they SHOULD have finished 76-68 instead of 69-75; they outscored their opponents 657-618.  They gave up the fewest walks as a staff, were 3rd in the league in runs allowed, 5th in team average and 7th in runs scored, so we aren't talking about the 1962 Mets here..........

That is really interesting.  I remember that team being a very frustrating team to watch.  In this tournament they are crushing the ball and considering the teams they've played, their 4.44 era is acceptable.  Brogna and Bonilla are hitting everything in big spots.

                                                                          NY METS TEAM TOURNAMENT FINALS

                                                                                                 GAME 1

W Dipito   L Leiter   BS Benitez

In a back and forth contest, Brogna is once again the star.  In the top of the 8th, Brogna faced Benitez with the bases loaded.  He promptly unloaded the bases with his first grand slam of the tournament!  That is his fourth HR in his last 3 games.  Brogna also doubled on the night, finishing 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 5 RBIs.  95 is up 1 game to none.

The 95 Mets were at it again.  Trailing 3-1 after the first, true to form in this tournament, they began chipping away.  B. Bonilla hit a solo HR in the 5th to tie it and J. Vizcaino gave the 95 NYM the lead in the 6th with a RBI double.  He finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored and a rbi.  B. Minor pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings in relief for the win and J. Franco closed out the game with a 6 out save.  99 NYM manager Bobby Valentine was seen shaking his head as he left the home team dugout after the game.  The 95 NYM are now up 2-0 and heading home for games 3 and 4.

The improbable has happened!  95 NYM starter Pete Harnish was dominant, allowing 6 hits over 9 innings for a complete game shutout.  He was aided by 95 batting around in the first and seemed to be on cruise control throughout the one sided affair.  Harnish walked one and struck out 8 on the night.  Due to his late inning heroics throughout the tournament, Rico Brogna was named tournament MVP, narrowly beating out teammate Bobby Bonilla.  The 95 NYM move on to the Tournament Of Champions and will undoubtably be a very low seed.
