Arizona Team Tournament round 1 results

(1) 99 ARI defeats (8) 14 ARI 4 -2...99 ARI took advantage of the 14 ARI bullpen throughout the series.  AJ Pollock had a great series for 14 ARI (4 HR, 8 RBI) but it wasn't enough.

(2) 02 ARI defeats (7) 05 ARI 4-1...02 ARI starters dominate the series, this may be the Arizona team to beat.

(3) 11 ARI defeats (6) 15 ARI 4-1...A lot closer than it looks. 15 ARI had game 1 won, up 3-1 in the 9th.  Three consecutive errors later, they lose 4-3.  In game 4, Ray had a no hitter through 8 1/3, lost the no hitter and the manager (ahem) tried to get him the shutout.  A 3 run HR later and they lose 3-2.

(4) 07 ARI defeats (5) 13 ARI 4-0....No contest, 07 outscores 13.... 22-7 over the 4 games.

Thanks, I have been wanting to do this one for a while. I think having people following makes it even more rewarding. Now that I have started, I have been wondering if any of the other "Evil Empire" teams can knock off the 27 yanks.

If any other one can do it, I'd probably say the '98 team. 114 regular season wins are nothing to sneeze at.

I think you are probably right but I don't have that season.  The Yanks have had so many great teams over the years, in a 7 game series, many have a shot.  My pick is the 41 team.

You're going to have to ride Murphy out there as if he was Mariano Rivera. Even though I should see them dominate in my Chowdah Cup, I don't think that they have the pitching depth to beat the '27 team.

We will see, I'm really enjoying this project so far and I'm looking forward to following the Chowdah Cup.

ARIZONA TEAM TOURNAMENT ROUND 2

(4) 07 ARI defeats (1) 99 ARI 4-3

The agony of defeat!  In a back and forth series, 99 ARI was up 3-1 in the top of the 9th of game 7.  Matt Mantei (99 ARI) entered the game and allowed a one out single and a 2 out walk.  Eric Byrnes (07 ARI) stepped up for to the plate and hit a routine fly ball to right.  The crowd went wild aaaand Bernard Gilkey dropped the ball scoring 2 runs.  Orlando Hudson (07 ARI) stepped up to the plate and roped a double to left center for a 4-3 lead.  Jose Valverde entered in the bottom of the 9th and retired the side in order.  Just like that, the 07 ARI team is going to the finals instead of the 99 team!

(3) 11 ARI defeats (2) 02 ARI  4-3

In this crazy series, each team hit 11 home runs over the 7 games.  In game 5, Erubiel Durazo (02 ARI) hit a walk off home run in the 10th inning to give 02 ARI a 3-2 lead in the series.  11 ARI stormed back in game 6 to even the series with a 7-1 victory.  The stage was set.  11 ARI scored 2 in the 2nd and 1 in the 3rd for a 3-0 lead.  Eric Byrnes erased that lead with a 3 run blast in the bottom of the 7th.  Both teams had numerous chances to win and Justin Upton (11) ARI helped his team do just that with a rbi single in the top of the 15th scoring Ryan Roberts to advance 11 ARI to the finals.
