Chowdah Cup -- 1941
Permalink

Hi all. This is the first edition of the Chowdah Cup.

Here is how it goes.

1) BASIC (w/ADV fielding plus SADV player rest, POW & Closer Rules)

2) Teams are placed in order based on winning percentage, tie breaker will be run differential

3) Since there are 16 teams, the teams will be broken down, is a snake-like breakdown, into two divisions, the Moe Division and the Curly Division

4) 36-game schedule. Each team will play each other team 5 times and on the 36th game, it will be a "position round" (1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th, ....).

4a) There will be no days off during the schedule. The first day off will be between game 36 and the opening of the Chowdah Cup round.

4b) The last 5 games will be "September" games in which the rosters will be expanded, if they can.

4c) The Chowdah Cup rounds will be best of 5. The two division winners will be the top 2 seeds and in order based on record.

5) The two division winners, plus the next two teams with the best records, will advance to the tournament round. Tie breakers, if needed, will be head-to-head (if applicable), then run differential.

I will be using pro-rated injuries. Position players will be rested based on SADV player rest chart. Pitchers will rest based on a pitcher's rest chart.

Stock (season ending) rosters will be used. In cases where there is more than one card, the mixed card will be used and placed on the team that the player last played for. 4-man starting rotations will be used and starters will be based on games started during actual season.

POW rules will be used for pitcher fatigue. Only pitchers that had saves will be used, if needed, in save opportunities (closer rule).

Players and pitchers will be limited to a pro-rated amount based on games played/pitched/started (pitchers). This is so that the entire roster would be used. For example, if a pitcher started 38 games in 1941, he would be able to start 9 games (38/154 * 36= 8.8, or 9 starts). If a pitcher started 25 games in 1941, he would be able to start in 6 games.

A person on another site has done a bunch of these.

As the number of teams grows, so will the number of wild card teams. My next season, if I go in order of years of sets that I have, will be 1966. I've never played with that set yet. I'll also be using a DH in AL parks when the time comes (1973, I think that I have that set).

One thing for sure is that whoever leads the Cup in stolen bases isn't going to have the record for long.
