Created My Own Website
Permalink

Hi, guys. So the other day while out to breakfast with my sister and my grandma, we were discussing jobs. My sister told me that a kid at her internship made a personal website, basically an online version of his resume to stand out among candidates.

I checked out his resume and man I was impressed. I had to do something like that. All day Sunday I spent researching Wordpress and square space trying to figure out which one was more user-friendly. I chose Wordpress and the rest is history.

I spent almost twenty hours the past week working on my website, tweaking things slightly so they're ever so perfect. The results are outstanding and I am really proud of myself. I have my own website now with my name and what I am looking to do. Really should make me different than other candidates and I'm happy about that.

If you guys have any tips for me that would be great. My website is brettdadig.com. It's nothing too special, but I'm proud of how it turned out.

Let me know what you guys think!

I'll tell you something, just my opinion.......power washing is something that is such an overlooked item in keeping up not just a house, but a quality restaurant. When I worked at Uno's many years ago, my GM used to once a month have "cleaning parties". After close one night a month, we would power clean the corners, under the ovens and grills, etc. Mostly the back of the house stuff (the kitchen for all of you who don't know restaurant lingo LOL). She would let us (well, not me because I don't drink) have a couple beers (we would be there for like 2-4 hours and no one got messy because we all loved and respected her), make some food for us (not Uno's stuff, she would cook large casseroles and dips). Place was one of the cleanest I've ever worked in.

Compare that to my last restaurant job, when I personally called the County Health Department and had them shut down because of a severe rat infestation. I am not talking about cute little field mice, I am talking Donatello, Michelangelo, Rafael, and Leonardo....I think even Splinter showed up when the lights were off. I kept telling the owner....who was Asian, spoke no English and threw nickels around like they were manhole covers.......we needed to power wash the kitchen. His answer to everything was a nod, a pat on the back, and he would say "ahh, you do good job", then walk away.......

Seriously, from a guy who worked in the biz for 28 years, I don't know how intense your operation is, but a suggestion would be to try to cold call restaurants. Hell even ones with patios if you want to stay strictly with outdoor stuff........

Love the site and your entrepreneurial spirit. The samples of your work (excel and writing) are great and should provide potential employers with great comfort! Good use of photos and graphical elements.

My only critique is there are too many words (or at least shorter paragraphs and bullet points to make it flow easier and highlight your key strengths). It is a minor critique.

But overall, I love it!

As much as I love wordpress, it is not easy to format.
